Trees were planted over 40 years ago on the Khatib Tree Farm. In 2021 we cut the trees and milled them into boards. We waited 1 1/2 years to dry the wood until they were below 12% moisture level. In 2023 we used these trees to custom build these cutting boards.

•Black Walnut, Black Cherry, Hickory, Red Oak and White Oak  trees were planted over 40 years ago on the Khatib Tree Farm in Northwestern Illinois. In 2021 it was time to harvest selected trees and mill them into lumber with our Norwood  LumberMax hd38 wood mill. We stack the wood and stickered them to let them air dry for 1 ½ to 3 years. Each inch of thickness takes one year to air dry. Based on the thickness of the boards we waited until the moisture level was 12% or less.

•Once they are air dried, we select each board carefully to design the cutting boards you see below.

•End grain cutting boards are designed to keep your knives sharp and are usually purchased by Chef’s and people who work in the kitchen a lot. When the knife cuts into an End Grain cutting board, they are separating the fibers which bounce back in place and do not leave marks on the cutting board. Imagine you put your fingers inside a broom and then took your fingers out. The broom goes back to its original place. The fibers of the end grain piece of wood are like tiny little straws, once you cut into the cutting board the fibers bounce back into their original place.
